Don W. Blevins is a litigation attorney with the law firm of McAlpine & Associates in Auburn Hills, Michigan.

Mr. Blevins  has more than twenty years of experience litigating multi-million dollar cases for clients across the United States.

A Michigan native, Mr. Blevins practiced law for more than a decade in Washington, D.C.  As a litigator with Washington, D.C.’s Swidler & Berlin (now Bingham McCutchen LLP).  Over that period, Mr. Blevins represented clients in major disputes throughout the United States.  A representative sample includes:

  • Multiple, simultaneous actions on behalf of a New York electric utility to avoid the crippling consequences of uneconomic wholesale power purchase agreements imposed upon it by state regulators.
  • Recovery of more than $20 million in bid preparation costs on behalf of a major defense contractor in a Federal Government bid protest.
  • Successful constitutional challenge to the State of Massachusetts’ regulation of a local telephone company’s entrance into the cable television market.
  • Successful defense of a South Carolina utility in a Federal Trade Commission antitrust investigation.
  • Numerous actions throughout the U.S. in support of new entrants into the local telephone markets.
  • Successful pro bono constitutional challenge to a capital murder conviction in Alabama, followed by a retrial resulting in a reduced sentence.

In 2002, Mr. Blevins returned to Michigan, where he continues his national litigation practice.  Recent successes range from the recovery of more than $10 million in loan losses for one of Michigan’s largest credit unions (along the way gaining Michigan’s sixth largest verdict for 2009) to defending good companies who were victim’s of Michigan’s economic downturn in the face of aggressive lenders bent on liquidation.

Over Mr. Blevins’ many years of practice, he has gathered invaluable insight into business practices that lead to losses, as well as tools to help avoid or recover those losses.  In recognition of that, successful companies regularly retain Mr. Blevins to restructure their contracts and purchase orders, to review their internal controls, and to negotiate trade and lender agreements.  Although Mr. Blevins’ practice is increasingly consumed by helping clients grow through sound business practices, the heart of his practice remains litigation.  In time of war, Mr. Blevins is very much a war time consigliere.
